PRISM Therapy by GrayMatter

This is an FDA-approved treatment for PTSD and Major Depression (MDD) that measures a patient’s brainwaves using an EEG cap while they test out and practice cognitive techniques for emotional self-regulation. In simpler terms, it is a 15 session training protocol where patients learn to manage and dissipate anxiety and negative emotional states using their own minds. The EEG neurofeedback provides real-time information to the treatment software, telling it which techniques are working and which are not. Each individual patient will respond differently to different coping strategies. While the PRISM treatment was originally designed for PTSD treatment, it is also in the final stages of FDA-approval for Major Depression and can be helpful for anyone looking for a “drug free” set of skills to self-regulate. Essentially, you can learn how to quiet your own body and emotions using the power of your own mind!

Benefits of Prism Therapy

  • PRISM therapy does NOT require an individual with PTSD to discuss the trauma at all. People are often relieved to find out that they “don’t have to live through it all over again.” Complex, adult and childhood, acute and chronic PTSD subtypes are all achieving a 63% success rate with PRISM. That means that symptoms are either completely gone or very much improved for 2 out 3 people who complete PRISM therapy

  • PRISM therapy does NOT require medications, though patients already taking medications don’t have to change them in order to be eligible for the treatment.

  • PRISM therapy is NOT open-ended. The PTSD protocol requires a total of16 sessions with either Dr. Masci or a Nurse Practitioner personally.

  • PRISM therapy does NOT have side effects. Nothing is being done to the patient directly. It is an evidence-based, FDA-approved type of psychotherapy that is informed by technology and physiological data in the form of EEG data. In essence, the patient is learning a whole set of new coping skills that they personally have tested and have proven to be effective for that SPECIFIC PATIENT.
